목장의 소들도 그와 같아라.
마음이 감각적 쾌락에 집착되어 있는 동안에
죽음은 그들을 순식간에 앗아간다.
마치 홍수가 잠자는 마을을 휩쓸어 가듯이.
Death comes and carries off that man,
praised for his children and flocks, his mind distracted,
as a flood carries off a sleeping village.
자식도 의지가 되지 못하고
부모와 친척도 그를 보호해 주지 못한다.
죽음이 그에게 닥쳐올 때
어느 누구도 그를 보호해 줄 수 없다.
Sons are no help, nor a father, nor relations;
there is no help from kinsfolk for one whom death has seized.
이 같은 진리를 안 지혜로운 사람은
스스로 계를 잘 지키고
마음의 장애를 제거하여
빠르게 닙바나의 도에 이른다.
A wise and good man who knows the meaning of this, s
hould quickly clear the way that leads to Nirvana.
