스스로 법답게 몸을 가꾸고

산 목숨을 해치지 않으면
그런 사람은 수행자다.
He who, though dressed in fine apparel, exercises tranquillity,
is quiet, subdued, restrained, chaste, and has ceased to find fault
with all other beings, he indeed is a Brahmana,
an ascetic (sramana), a friar (bhikshu).
이런 사람은 실로 흔치 않다
악행으로부터 자기를 억제하고 부끄러움을 알며
스스로 깨어 자기를 다스리나니
마치 준마에게 채찍질할 이유가 없듯
이런 사람에게도 그러하다.
