25. Lying
거짓말
This was said by the Lord....
"Bhikkhus, I say that for an individual who transgress
in one thing, there is no evil deed whatsoever he would
not do. What is that one thing? It is this, bhikkhus:
deliberately telling a lie."
세존께서 이렇게 말씀하셨다고.... [나는 들었다].
“비구들이여! 한 가지 일에 있어서 어긋나게 하는 개인에게는,
무엇이 되었든 그가 하지 않을 악행이 하나도 없다고 나는 말하오.
그 한 가지가 무엇일까요? 비구들이여! 그것은 이것, 일부러
거짓말을 하는 것이오.”
There is no evil that cannot be done
By a person who deliberately lies,
Who transgresses in one thing,
Taking no account of the next world.
내세에 대해서는 생각조차 하지 않고
한 가지 일에 있어 어긋나는 사람,
일부러 거짓말을 하는 사람이
하지 못할 악은 하나도 없네.
