23. Diligence
부지런함
This was said by the Lord....
"There is one thing, bhikkhus, developed and continually practised, by which both kind of welfare are acquired and maintained: welfare here and now, and that pertaining to the future. What is that one thing? It is diligence in wholesome states. This is that one thing....."
세존께서 이렇게 말씀하셨다고.... [나는 들었다].
“비구들이여! 이것을 계속해서 계발하고 실천하면 두 종류의 복락, 즉 지금 이곳에서의 복락과 내세까지 지속될 복락을 얻어서 유지되는 한 가지가 있소. 그 한 가지가 무엇일까요? 그것은 건전한 일[을 하는 데]에 부지런한 것이요. 이것이 [바로] 그 한 가지로....”
The wise praise diligence
In doing deeds of merit;
For one who is wise and diligent
Obtains a twofold benefit:
Welfare in the here and now
And welfare in a future life.
And because one has realized the good,
The wise person is called a sage.
현자는 공덕행을 하는 데 있어
부지런한 것을 칭찬하니,
현명하고 부지런한 사람은
지금 이곳에서의 복락
그리고 미래 생에서의 복락,
두 가지 이익을 얻기 때문이네.
그리고 선을 체득하였기 때문에
현자를 성인이라 부르네.
