14. Ignorance
어리석음
This was said by the Lord....
"Bhikkhus, I do not perceive any single hindrance other than the hindrance of ignorance by which humankind is so obstructed and for so long a time runs on and wanders in samsara. It is indeed through the hindrance of ignorance that humankind is obstructed and for a long time runs on and wanders in samsara."
세존께서 이렇게 말씀하셨다고.... [나는 들었다].
“비구들이여! 존재[중생]들이 그것으로 해서 그렇게 가로막히고 그렇게 오랜 동안 윤회 속에서 헤매는 어리석음[無明]이라는 장애 말고는 단 하나의 장애도 나는 느끼지 못하오. 존재[중생]들이 가로막히고 오랜 동안 윤회 속에서 헤매는 것은 실상 어리석음이라는 장애를 통한 것이오.”
No other single thing exists
Like the hindrance of delusion,
Which so obstructs humankind
And makes it wander on forever.
Those who have abandoned delusion,
Cleaving through this mass of darkness,
No longer roam and wander on;
In them the cause is found no more.
사람들을 그렇게 가로막고
[윤회 속에서] 영원히 헤매게 하는 것으로
미망이라는 장애와 같은 것이
다른 것은 단 하나도 존재하지 않네.
그렇지만 이 거대한 어두움을 통과해 헤치고 나아가
미망을 버린 사람들은
더 이상 방랑하며 떠돌지 않고
그들에게서는 더 이상 [윤회의] 원인을 찾지 못하네.
