자만심을 이해함
This was said by the Lord....
"Bhikkhus, one who has not directly known and fully understood conceit, who has not detached his mind from it and abandon it, is incapable of destroying suffering. But one who has directly known and fully understood conceit, and who has detached his mind from it and abandon it, is capable of destroying suffering."
세존께서 이렇게 말씀하셨다고.... [나는 들었다].
“... 비구들이여! 자만심을 직접적으로 알지 못하여 온전하게 이해하지 못한 사람, 그것에서 자기 마음을 떼어내지 못하고 그것을 버리지 못한 사람은 괴로움을 없애버릴 수 없소. 그렇지만 자만심을 직접적으로 알아 온전하게 이해한 사람 그리고 그것에서 자기 마음을 떼어내 그것을 버린 사람은 괴로움을 없애버릴 수 있소.”
Humankind is possessed by conceit,
Bound by conceit and delighted with being;
Not fully understanding conceit,
They come again to renewal of being.
But those who have abandoned conceit,
And who by destroying conceit are freed,
Have conquered the bondage of conceit
And overcome all suffering.
자만심에 사로잡히고
자만심에 속박되고 ‘산다는 것[존재; being]’에 흥겨워하는 인간은
자만심[의 본질]을 온전히 이해하지 못하니,
그들은 또 다시 이 세상에 태어나게 되네.
그렇지만 자만심을 버리고
자만심을 소멸하여 자유롭게 된 사람은
자만심이라는 속박을 정복하고 나서
모든 괴로움을 극복하네.
