19.Though much he recites the Sacred Texts,
but acts not accordingly, that heedless man is like
a cowherd who counts others’' kine. He has no
share in the fruits of the Holy Life.
20.Though little he recites the Sacred Texts,
but acts in accordance with the teaching,
forsaking lust, hatred and ignorance,
truly knowing, with mind well freed, clinging to
naught here and hereafter, he shares the fruits
of the Holy Life.

많은 경전을 외우더라도
방일하여 행하지 않는다면
소치기가 남의 소를 헤아리는 것과 같아,
수행자의 삶을 성취하지 못하리.
20.
경전을 외우지 못하더라도
가르침에 맞게 여법하게 행하고
탐욕과 분노와 어리석음을 버리고,
올바로 알고 잘 마음을 해탈하여
이 세상이나 저 세상의 집착 여의면,
수행자의 삶을 성취하리.
