112 The World
세계
This was said by the Lord, said by the Arahant, so I heard:
“Bhikkhus, the world has been fully understood by the Tathagata; the Tathagata is released from the world. The origin of the world has been fully understood by the Tathagata; the origin of the world has been abandoned by the Tathagata. The cessation of the world has been fully understood by the Tathagata; the cessation of the world has been realized by the Tathagata. The course leading to the cessation of the world has been fully understood by the Tathagata; the course leading to the cessation of the world has been developed by the Tathagata.
Bhikkhus, in the world with its devas, maras, and brahmas, with its recluses and brahmins, among humankind with its princes and people, whatever is seen, heard, sensed, cognized, attained, sought, and reflected upon by the mind - that is fully understood by the Tathagata: therefore he is called the Tathagata.
Bhikkhus, from the night when the night when the Tathagata awakened to unsurpassed full enlightenment until the night when he passes away into the Nibbana-element with no residue left, whatever he speaks, utters, and explains - all that is just so and not otherwise: therefore he is called the Tathagata.
As the Tathagata says, so he does; as the Tathagata does, so he says: therefore he is called the Tathagata.
In the world with its devas, maras, and brahmas, with its recluse and brahmins, among humankind with its princes and people, the Tathagata is the conqueror, unvanquished, all-seer, wielding power: therefore he is called the Tathagata."
세존께서 이렇게 말씀하셨다고.... [나는 들었다].
“비구들이여! 여래는 세계를 원만하게 이해하여 왔고; 여래는 세계에서 벗어나 자유롭소. 여래는 세계의 [발생] 원인을 원만하게 이해하여 왔고; 여래는 세계의 [발생] 원인을 포기하여 왔소. 여래는 세계의 소멸을 원만하게 이해하여 왔고; 여래는 세계의 소멸을 증득하여 왔소. 여래는 세계의 소멸로 인도하는 과정[길]을 원만하게 이해하여 왔고; 여래는 세계의 소멸로 인도하는 과정을 닦아 왔소.
비구들이여! 수행자 및 바라문들과 함께 하는 신․악마와 브라흐마[梵天]들의 세계에서, 왕후(王侯)들 및 백성들과 함께 하는 인간들 가운데에서 보여지는 것․들려오는 것․느껴지는 것․인식되는 것․달성되는 것․구해지는 것 그리고 마음으로 궁리되어지는 것 - 여래는 그것을 원만하게 이해하였고: 따라서 그를 여래라 부르지요.
비구들이여! 여래가 [이] 유례없는 원만한 깨달음을 깨쳤던 밤부터 남은 찌꺼기 하나도 없는 닙바나[涅槃]-경지로 돌아가시는 밤까지, 말하고 설법하고 설명하는 것은 무엇이 되었든 - 그것은 모두 그렇게도 진실하며 그와 다른 것은 하나도 없소: 따라서 그를 여래라 부르지요.
여래는 말하는 그대로 행하고; 행하는 그대로 말하지요: 따라서 그를 여래라 부르지요.
수행자 및 바라문들과 함께 하는 신․악마와 브라흐마[梵天]들의 세계에서, 왕후(王侯)들 및 백성들과 함께 하는 인간들 가운데에서 여래는 정복자, 패배 당하지 않는 이, 모든 것을 보는 사람, 전능한 사람이오: 따라서 그를 여래라 부르지요.”
By knowledge of the whole world,
The whole world as it truly is,
He is released from all the world,
In all the world he is unattached.
The all-conquering heroic sage,
Freed from every bond is he;
He has reached that perfect peace,
Nibbana which is free from fear.
Rid of taints, he is enlightened,
Trouble-free, with doubts destroyed,
Reached the final end of deeds,
Released by clingings full destruction.
The Enlightened One, the Lord,
A lion is he, unsurpassed;
For in the world together with its devas
He set the Brahma-wheel in motion.
Thus those devas and human beings,
Gone for refuge to the Buddha,
On meeting him pay homage to him,
The great one free from diffidence.
Tamed, of the tamed he is the best;
Calmed, of the calmed he is the seer;
Freed, of the greed he is the foremost;
Crossed, of the crossed he is the chief.
Thus do they pay him due homage,
The great one free from diffidence:
In the world together with its devas
There is no person equalling you.
실상 그대로의 전체 세계,
전체 세계에 대한 지혜로
그는 모든 세계에서 풀려나 자유롭고,
모든 세계에서 집착하지 않네.
모든 것을 정복하는 훌륭하신 성자(聖者),
그는 온갖 속박에서 벗어나 자유롭네.
그는 두려움이 없는 닙바나[涅槃],
저 완벽한 평화에 도달해왔네.
때[煩惱]를 없애버리고 그는 깨달았으며,
의심을 소멸하고 걱정 하나 없이
행위[業]의 궁극 목표에 도달하고
집착을 완전히 소멸하여 해탈하였네.
깨달으신 분, 세존,
그는 [동물의 왕인] 사자, 비할 데 없는 분이네;
왜냐하면 신들과 함께 하는 세상에서
그가 브라흐마의 바퀴[梵輪]를 굴리기 때문이네.
그리하여 부처님께 귀의하러 간
신들과 인간들, 그분을 뵙자
망설임 없는 위대한 분,
그 분께 인사를 드리네.
길들여진 사람들 중에서 [가장 잘] 길들여졌으니 그는 으뜸이며
고요해진 사람들 가운데 [가장] 고요하니 그는 선각자네;
해탈한 사람들 중에서 [가장 잘] 해탈하였으니 그가 최고,
[번뇌의 흐름을] 건넌 사람들 가운데 [가장 잘] 건넜으니 그는 최고이네.
망설임 없는 위대한 분,
그들은 이와 같이 그 분께 마땅한 예배를 드리네:
“신들과 함께 하는 세상에서
당신과 동등해질 사람은 하나도 없사옵니다.”
This too is the meaning of what was said by the Lord, so I heard.
이것 또한 세존께서 말씀하신 것의 의미이다라고 나는 들었다.
