3.4 Sariputta
사리풋타
Thus have I heard. At one time the Lord was staying near Savatthi in the Jeta Wood at Anathapindika’s monastery. On that occasion the Venerable Sariputta was sitting cross-legged not far from the Lord, holding his body erect, having set up mindfulness before him.

Then, on realizing its significance, the Lord uttered on that occasion this inspired utterance:
이와 같이 내가 들었다. 한 때 세존께서 사밧티 근처 젯타 숲에 있는 아나타핀디카[給孤獨長者]의 수도원[祇園精舍]에 머물고 계셨다. 그 때 사리풋타 장로가 세존으로부터 멀지 않은 곳에서 가부좌를 하고 앉아 몸을 곧추 세우고 자기 앞에 마음을 챙기는 수행을 하고 있었다.
세존께서 사리풋타 장로가 멀지 않은 곳에서 가부좌를 하고 앉아 몸을 곧추 세우고 자기 앞에 마음을 챙기는 수행을 하고 있는 것을 보셨다
그 때, 그것의 의미·중요성을 깨달으시고서 세존께서는 바로 그 순간 영감을 주는 이러한 게송을 읊으셨다.
Just as a mountain made of solid rock
Stands firm and unshakeable,
Even so, when delusion is destroyed,
A bhikkhu, like a mountain, is not perturbed.
단단한 바위로 이루어진 산이
안정되어 흔들리지 않고 서 있는 것처럼
미망(迷妄)이 멸진되었을 때,
비구도 그와 똑 같이 동요되지 않네.
