4.7 Sariputta (1)
Thus have I heard. At one time the Lord was staying near Savatthi in the Jeta Wood at Anathapindika's monastery. On that occasion the Venerable Sariputta was sitting cross-legged not far from the Lord, holding his body erect, being one of few wishes, contented, secluded, solitary, energetic, devoted to the higher mind.
The Lord saw the Venerable Sariputta sitting cross-legged not far away ... devoted to the higher mind.
Then, on realizing its significance, the Lord uttered on that occasion this inspired utterance:
ÀÌ¿Í °°ÀÌ ³»°¡ µé¾ú´Ù. ÇÑ ¶§ ¼¼Á¸²²¼ »ç¹åƼ ±Ùó Á¬Å¸ ½£¿¡ ÀÖ´Â ¾Æ³ªÅ¸ÇɵðÄ«[Ðå͵Լíþíº]ÀÇ ¼öµµ¿ø[Ѷê®ïñÞì]¿¡ ¸Ó¹°°í °è¼Ì´Ù. ±× ¶§ »ç¸®Ç²Å¸ Àå·Î°¡ ¼¼Á¸À¸·ÎºÎÅÍ ¸ÖÁö ¾ÊÀº °÷¿¡¼ °¡ºÎÁ¸¦ ÇÏ°í ¾É¾Æ ¸öÀ» °ðÃß ¼¼¿ì°í, ¹Ù¶ó´Â °ÍÀÌ °ÅÀÇ ¾ø´Â »ç¶÷¡¤¸¸Á·ÇÏ°í ÀÎÀûÀÌ µå¹® °÷¿¡¼ Ȧ·Î ¶³¾îÁ® Áö³»°í Á¤ÁøÇÏ´Â »ç¶÷ÀÌ µÇ¾î ¡®Á» ´õ ³ôÀº ¸¶À½¡¯¿¡ Àü³äÇÏ°í ÀÖ¾ú´Ù.
¼¼Á¸²²¼ »ç¸®Ç²Å¸ Àå·Î°¡ ¸ÖÁö ¾ÊÀº °÷¿¡¼ °¡ºÎÁ¸¦ ÇÏ°í ¾É¾Æ ¸öÀ» °ðÃß ¼¼¿ì°í.... ¡®Á» ´õ ³ôÀº ¸¶À½¡¯¿¡ Àü³äÇÏ°í ÀÖ´Â °ÍÀ» º¸¼Ì´Ù.
±× ¶§, ±×°ÍÀÇ Àǹ̡¤Á߿伺À» ±ú´ÞÀ¸½Ã°í¼ ¼¼Á¸²²¼´Â ¹Ù·Î ±× ¼ø°£ ¿µ°¨À» ÁÖ´Â ÀÌ·¯ÇÑ °Ô¼ÛÀ» À¼À¸¼Ì´Ù.
Diligent, devoted to the higher mind,
A sage trained in wisdom¡¯s ways,
There are no sorrows for the stable one
Who is calm and ever mindful.
