6.7 Subhuti
수붓티
Thus have I heard. At one time the Lord was staying near Savatthi in the Jeta Wood at Anathapindika’s monastery. On that occasion the Venerable Subhuti was sitting cross-legged not far from the Lord, holding his body erect, having attained a non-discursive concentration.
The Lord saw the Venerable Subhuti sitting corss-legged not far away, holding his body erect, having attained a non-discursive concentration. Then, on realizing its significance, the Lord uttered on that occasion this inspired utterance:
이와 같이 내가 들었다. 한 때 세존께서 사밧티 근처 젯타 숲에 있는 아나타핀디카[給孤獨長者]의 승원[祇園精舍]에 머물고 계셨다. 그 때에 수붓티 장로가 세존에게서 멀지 않은 곳에서 가부좌를 하고 앉아서 몸을 곧추 세우고 마음이 산만하지 않은 정신 집중[三昧]을 성취하고 있었다.
세존께서는 수붓티 장로가 멀지 않은 곳에서 가부좌를 하고 앉아서 몸을 곧추 세우고 마음이 산만하지 않은 정신 집중[三昧]을 성취하고 있는 것을 보셨다. 그 때, 그것의 의미·중요성을 깨달으시고서 세존께서는 바로 그 순간 영감을 주는 이러한 게송을 읊으셨다.
In whom discursive thoughts have been burnt up,
Entirely cut off within himself,
Having overcome that tie, perceiving the formless,
Surmounting the four bonds, he never comes back.
자기 내부에서 산만한 생각을 [모두] 태워 없애고
자기 안에서 완전히 끊어버린 사람,
그 속박을 극복하고 [그것이 본래] 형체가 없음을 지각하며
네 가지 구속을 이겨 내었으니, 그는 절대로 돌아오지 않네.
