6.6 Various Sectarians (3)
다양한 종파교도들(3)
Thus have I heard ... (as in 6.5) ....
And they lived quarrelsome, disputatious, and wrangling, wounding each other with verbal darts, saying: “Dhamma is like this, Dhamma is not like that! Dhamma is not like this, Dhamma is like that!"
Then, on realizing its significance,
the Lord uttered on that occasion this inspired utterance:
내가 이와 같이 들었다. ... (6.5경과 같음) .... 그리고 그들은 말다툼을 하고 논쟁을 벌이고, 또 “진리 법은 이와 같은 것이고, 진리 법은 저런 것이 아니다! 진리 법은 이런 것이 아니고 진리 법은 저런 것이다!”라고 하면서 말의 화살로 서로 언쟁하며 상처를 입히며 살아가고 있었다.
그 때, 그것의 의미·중요성을 깨달으시고서 세존께서는 바로 그 순간 영감을 주는 이러한 게송을 읊으셨다.
This humankind is attached to self-production
Or holds to production by another.
Those who have not understood this
Have not seen it as a dart.
But one who sees (this as it is),
Having drawn out the dart,
Does not think, “I am the agent,"
Nor does he think, “Another is the agent."
This humankind is possessed by conceit,
Fettered by conceit, bound by conceit.
Speaking vindictively because of their views,
They do not go beyond samsara.
이 인간은 ‘스스로 이루어졌다’[는 생각]에 집착하거나
‘다른 것에 의해 만들어졌다’[는 관념]을 끌어안고 있네.
이것을 [제대로] 이해하지 못하는 사람들은
그것이 [자신을 다치게 하는] 화살임을 보지 못하였네.
그러나 화살을 끄집어 내고서
(이것을 있는 그대로) 보는 사람은
“내가 행위자·작인(作因)·동인(動因)이다”라고 생각하지 않고
“다른 것이 행위자·작인(作因)·동인(動因)이다”라고 생각하지도 않네.
이 인간은 자만심에 사로 잡히고,
자만심에 속박되고 자만심에 묶여서,
자기 견해 때문에 집념 강하게 말을 해댈 뿐
윤회를 초월해 가지 못하네.
