6.3 Reviewing

Thus have I heard. At one time the Lord was staying near Savatthi in the Jeta Wood at Anathapindika's monastery. On that occasion the Lord was sitting reviewing the various unwholesome states that had been abandoned by him and the various wholesome states brought to completion through (meditational) development.
Then, on realizing that the various unwholesome states had been abandoned by him and the various wholesome states had been brought to completion through (meditational) development, the Lord uttered on that occasion this inspired utterance:
이와 같이 내가 들었다. 한 때 세존께서 사밧티 근처 젯타 숲에 있는 아나타핀디카[給孤獨長者]의 승원[祇園精舍]에 머물고 계셨다. 그 때에 세존께서는 당신께서 버리신 이런 저런 좋지 않은 일들과 (선정을) 갈고 닦아서 완성에 이르게 하신 다양한 좋은 일들을 회상하며 앉아 계셨다.
그 때, 이런 저런 좋지 않은 일들을 당신께서 버려 오셨으며 다양한 좋은 일들을 (선정을) 갈고 닦아서 완성에 이르게 하셨음을 깨달으시고서 세존께서는 바로 그 순간 영감을 주는 이러한 게송을 읊으셨다.
What formerly was, later was not;
What formerly was not, later was;
It was not and will not be
And does not now exist.
예전에 있었던 것이 후에는 없고
예전에는 없었던 것이 후에는 있으니,
그것은 앞서도 없었고 앞으로도 없을 것이며
지금도 존재하지 않네.
