7.8 Kaccana
캇차나
Thus have I heard. At one time the Lord was staying near Savatthi in the Jeta Wood at Anthapindika’s monastery. On that occasion the Venerable Mahakaccana was sitting cross-legged not far from the Lord, holding his body erect, having mindfulness with regard to the body set up and well established within him.

Then, on realizing its significance, the Lord uttered on that occasion this inspired utterance:
이와 같이 내가 들었다. 한 때 세존께서 사밧티 근처 젯타 숲에 있는 아나타핀디카[給孤獨長者]의 승원[祇園精舍]에 머물고 계셨다. 그 때에 마하캇차나 장로가 세존에게서 멀지 않은 곳에서 가부좌를 하고 앉아 자기 몸을 곧추 세우고서, 몸에 관한 마음 챙김을 자기 내부에 잘 확립하고 있었다.
세존께서는 가 마하캇차나 장로가 멀지 않은 곳에서 가부좌를 하고 앉아 자기 몸을 곧추 세우고서, 몸에 관한 마음 챙김을 자기 내부에 잘 확립하고 있는 것을 보셨다.
그 때, 그것의 의미·중요성을 깨달으시고서 세존께서는 바로 그 순간 영감을 주는 이러한 게송을 읊으셨다.
He for whom mindfulness of the body
Is always constantly established thus:
“If there had not been, there would not be for me;
There will not be, and there will not be for me,”
If he dwells upon that in graded steps
In time he will pass beyond attachment.
“과거에 없었다면, 현재 내게도 없으며
미래에도 없을 것이며 내게도 없을 것이다.”라는 식으로
항상 몸에 대한 마음 챙김을 지속적으로 하는 사람은
만약 그가 차차로 올라가는 계단에 있는 것을 곰곰이 생각한다면
조만간 [몸에 대한] 집착을 초월하게 되리.
