♠ ‘I have no cows, I have no calves,’-so said Bhagavat,-‘I have no cows in calf and no heifers, and I have no bull as a lord over the cows : therefore, if thou like, rain, O sky!
스승이 답했다. 나에게는 송아지도 없고, 젖을 짤 수 있는 암소도 없다. 새끼 밴 암소도 없고 발정기의 암소도 없다. 그리고 이 모든 암소들의 짝인 황소도 없으니 좋다면 비를 내려라, 하늘이여!
♠ ‘The stakes are driven in, and cannot be shaken,’-so said the herdsman Dhaniya,-‘the ropes are made of munga grass, new and well-made, the cows will not be able to break them : therefore, if thou like, rain, O sky!말뚝이 깊게 박혀 흔들리지 않는다. 양치기 다니야가 말했다. ‘문사’풀로 엮은 새 밧줄은 잘 꾀어 있으니 송아지도 끊을 수 없을 것이다. 그러니 하늘이여, 비를 내리려거든 내려라!
♠ ‘Having, like a bull, rent the bonds ; having, like an elephant, broken through the galukkhi creeper, I shall not again enter into a womb : therefore, if thou like, rain, O sky!’
Then at once a shower poured down, filling both sea and land. Hearing the sky raining, Dhaniya spoke thus:
스승이 답했다. 성난 황소같이 나는 고삐줄을 끊는다. 코끼리처럼 냄새나는 덩굴풀을 짓밟으며 나는 두 번 다시 모태속에 들어가지 않을 것이다. 그러니 하늘이여, 비를 내리려거든 내려라!
이때 갑자기 큰 비가 내려 땅과 바다가 모두 물에 잠겼다. 하늘이 뿌리는 빗소리를 듣고 다니야는 말했다.
