진리로서는 사성제가 가장 성스럽고
욕망을 다스리는 담마가 으뜸이며
인간과 천상을 통틀어 두 발 가진 생명 가운데
붇다야말로 최고의 성자이다.
The best of ways is the eightfold;
the best of truths the four words; the best of virtues passionlessness;
the best of men he who has eyes to see.
오직 이 길뿐이다.
그 어디에도 청정한 눈을 갖게 하는 다른 길은 없다
너는 마땅히 이 길을 따르라.
그러면 마라(악마)를 어리둥절하게 할 수 있으리니.
너희는 마당히 이 길을 따르라.
그러면 모든 둑카(고통, 괴로움)의 끝을 보리라.
나는 이 길로써 번뇌의 가시밭길을
벗어날 수 있었기에
너희에게 이 길을 보여 주는 것이다.
This is the way, there is no other that leads to the purifying of intelligence.
Go on this way! Everything else is the deceit of Mara (the tempter).
If you go on this way, you will make an end of pain!
The way was preached by me,
when I had understood the removal of the thorns (in the flesh).
