23. Diligence

This was said by the Lord....
"There is one thing, bhikkhus, developed and continually practised, by which both kind of welfare are acquired and maintained: welfare here and now, and that pertaining to the future. What is that one thing? It is diligence in wholesome states. This is that one thing....."

¡°ºñ±¸µéÀÌ¿©! ÀÌ°ÍÀ» °è¼ÓÇؼ °è¹ßÇÏ°í ½ÇõÇÏ¸é µÎ Á¾·ùÀÇ º¹¶ô, Áï Áö±Ý ÀÌ°÷¿¡¼ÀÇ º¹¶ô°ú ³»¼¼±îÁö Áö¼ÓµÉ º¹¶ôÀ» ¾ò¾î¼ À¯ÁöµÇ´Â ÇÑ °¡Áö°¡ ÀÖ¼Ò. ±× ÇÑ °¡Áö°¡ ¹«¾ùÀϱî¿ä? ±×°ÍÀº °ÇÀüÇÑ ÀÏ[À» ÇÏ´Â µ¥]¿¡ ºÎÁö·±ÇÑ °ÍÀÌ¿ä. ÀÌ°ÍÀÌ [¹Ù·Î] ±× ÇÑ °¡Áö·Î....¡±
The wise praise diligence
In doing deeds of merit;
For one who is wise and diligent
Obtains a twofold benefit:
Welfare in the here and now
And welfare in a future life.
And because one has realized the good,
The wise person is called a sage.
