21. A Confident Mind
굳게 믿는 마음
This was said by the Lord....
"Here, bhikkhus, some person has a confident mind. Having examined his mind with my mind, I know that if this person were to die at this time, as if carried there he would be placed in heaven. What is the reason for that? It is because his mind is confident. It is because of the mind's confidence that some beings here, when the body perishes, are reborn after death in a good bourn, in a heavenly world."
세존께서 이렇게 말씀하셨다고.... [나는 들었다].
“비구들이여! 여기 어떤 사람은 굳게 믿는 마음을 갖고 있소. 내 마음으로 그의 마음을 살펴보고서, 그가 만일 이 때 죽는다면 마치 그곳에 옮겨지는 것처럼 천상에 놓이게 될 것임을 나는 알고 있소. 그 이유가 무엇일까요? 그것은 그의 마음이 굳게 믿기 때문이지요. 여기에 있는 일부 존재[중생]들이 사후에 몸이 소멸될 때 좋은 곳, 천상 세계에 다시 태어나는 것은 마음에 굳은 믿음이 있기 때문이지요.”
Understanding the confident mind
Of some person dwelling here,
The Buddha explained its meaning
In the presence of the bhikkhus.
If that person were to die
At this very moment now,
He would arise in a good bourn
Because of his confident mind.
As if they were carried off
And placed there, thus
Beings go to a good bourn
Because of mind's confidence.
여기 살고 있는 어떤 사람의
굳게 믿는 마음을 이해하시고
부처님께서는 비구들 앞에서
그 의미를 설명하셨네.
바로 지금 이 순간에
그 사람이 죽는다면,
굳게 믿는 마음 때문에
그는 좋은 곳에 다시 태어나리.
마음이 굳게 믿기 때문에,
마치 [짐을] 옮겨다가
그곳에 내려놓듯이
그런 식으로 좋은 곳으로 가게 되네.
