41. Deprived of Wisdom
지혜가 부족한 사람들
This was said by the Lord....
"Bhikkhus, those beings are thoroughly deprived
who are deprived of noble wisdom. They live in
discomfort even here and now, with vexation, trouble,
and distress, and when the body perishes at death
a bad bourn is to be expected.
Those beings are not deprived who are not deprived
of noble wisdom. They live in comfort here and now,
without vexation, trouble, or distress, and
when the body perishes at death a good bourn
is to be expected."
세존께서 이렇게 말씀하셨다고.... [나는 들었다].
“비구들이여! 고귀한 지혜가 모자라는 존재[중생]들은 속속들이
부족한 사람들이지요. 그들은 스스로를 짜증나게 하고 성가시게
하고 괴롭게 하면서 심지어 지금 여기에서도 불편하게 살아가고
사후에 몸이 소멸될 때 나쁜 곳[에 다시 태어나는 것]이 예상되지요.
고귀한 지혜가 결핍되지 않은 존재[중생]들은 부족할 것이 없는
사람들이지요. 그들은 스스로를 짜증나게 하고 성가시게 하거나
괴롭게 하지 않으면서, 지금 여기에서도 편안하게 살아가고
사후에 몸이 소멸될 때 좋은 곳[에 다시 태어나는 것]이 예상되지요.“
See the world with its devas,
Destitute of wisdom,
Established in name-and-form,
Conceiving this to be the truth.
Wisdom which leads to penetration
Is the best thing in the world;
By this one completely understands
The ending of both birth and being.
Devas and human beings hold dear
Those awakened ones ever mindful,
Possessing joyous wisdom,
Bearing their final bodies.
지혜라고는 없이
이름과 형상[名色]으로 세워져 있는,
신들과 함께 하는 세상을 보고
이것이 진리라고 여기네.
통찰력으로 인도하는 지혜는
세상에서 으뜸가는 것.
태어남과 존재 양자의 끝냄을
이것으로 해서 완벽하게 이해하네.
[그리하여] 늘 마음을 챙기고
환희에 찬 지혜를 갖추었으며
마지막 몸을 [받아] 지니고 있는 저 깨달으신 분들을
신들과 인간들이 끔찍이 아끼네.
