This was said by the Buddha....
"Bhikkhus, live so as to realize the benefits of the training,
the attainment of higher wisdom, the essence of release,
and the control of mindfulness. Bhikkhus, if you live to realize
the benefits of the training ...
one of two fruits is to be expected: final knowledge here and
now or, there being some residual defilement, the state
of non-returning."
세존께서 이렇게 말씀하셨다고.... [나는 들었다].
“비구들이여! 수행의 이익[功德], 더 높은 지혜의 성취,
해탈의 정수와 마음 챙김의 제어[四念處觀]를 실천하면서
살아가시오. 비구들이여! 만약 그대들이 살아가면서 수행의
이익을 실천하고 .... 한다면, 다음 두 가지 과보 중 한 가지가
기대되지요. 즉, 지금 여기에서 궁극의 지혜[阿羅漢果]
[를 성취하든가] 아니면 오염이 일부 남아 있지만 그곳에서
‘[이 세상에] 다시 돌아오지 않는’ 경지[不還果][를
성취하게 되지요].”
One who has completed the training,
Incapable of falling away,
Attained to the higher wisdom,
A seer of the end of birth -
That sage bears his final body,
And having left behind conceit,
He has gone beyond decay, I say.
Therefore ever delighting in meditation,
Concentrated, with ardent energy,
Seeing the end of birth, O bhikkhus,
Conquer Mara and his host,
And go beyond all birth and death.
수행을 마치고
[더 이상 미혹한 삶에] 빠질 수 없으며
더 높은 지혜를 성취한 사람,
태어남의 끝을 보는 사람, -
저 성인은 마지막 몸을 지니고 있으며
자만심을 버리고 나서
늙음[老衰]을 뛰어넘어 간다고 나는 말하네.
오 비구들이여! 그러므로
늘 명상을 기뻐하고 정신을 집중하며
열심히 정진하고 태어남의 끝을 보는 사람들은
마라와 그 무리를 정복하고
모든 태어남과 죽음[生死]을 뛰어넘어 가네.
