45. Living in Seclusion
외떨어진 곳에서 홀로 살아가기
This was said by the Lord....
"Live enjoying seclusion, bhikkhus; live delighting in seclusion,
engage in practising inner mental tranquility, not neglecting
meditation, possessing insight, and frequenting empty places.
If you live enjoying seclusion, bhikkhus, .... and frequenting
empty places, one of two fruits is to be expected:
final knowledge here and now or,
there being some residual defilement,
the state of non-returning."
세존께서 이렇게 말씀하셨다고.... [나는 들었다].
“비구들이여! 홀로 떨어져 사는 것[獨居]을 즐기며 살아가시오.
홀로 떨어져 사는 것을 기뻐하며 살아가며, 내면의 정신적 평정을
실천하고 명상을 게을리 하지 않으며 통찰력을 갖추고 [아무도 없는]
텅 빈곳에 자주 가도록 하시오. 비구들이여! 만약 그대들이 홀로
떨어져 사는 것을 기뻐하며 살아가고, .... [아무도 없는] 텅 빈곳에
자주 간다면, 다음 두 가지 과보 중 한 가지가 기대되지요. 즉,
지금 여기에서 궁극의 지혜[阿羅漢果][를 성취하든가] 아니면
오염이 일부 남아 있지만 그곳에서 ‘[이 세상에] 다시 돌아오지
않는’ 경지[不還果][를 성취하게 되지요].”
Those of peaceful mind, discerning,
Mindful, given to meditation,
Clearly see things rightly
And long not for sensual pleasures.
Those peaceful ones, delighting in diligence,
Who see fear in negligence,
Are incapable of falling away
And are close to Nibbana.
마음이 평화롭고, 분별력이 있으며,
마음을 챙기고, 정신 집중에 몰두한 사람들은
[세상] 일을 바르고 분명하게 보고
감각적 쾌락을 그리워하지 않네.
정진하는 데에서 기뻐하면서
게으름에서 두려움을 보는 저 평화로운 사람들은
[더 이상 미혹한 삶에] 빠질 수 없고
닙바나에 가까이 [다가와] 있네.
