69. Attachment
집착 (2)
This was said by the Lord....
"Bhikkhus, any bhikkhu or bhikkhuni in whom attachment
is not abandoned, hate is not abandoned, and delusion is not abandoned, is said to be one who has not crossed the ocean
with its waves, breakers, and eddies, with its sharks and demons.
But any bhikkhu or bhikkhuni in whom attachment is abandoned,
hate is abandoned, and delusion is abandoned, is said to be one
who has crossed the ocean with its waves, breakers, and eddies,
its sharks and demons - one of whom it is said: 'Crossed over,
gone beyond, the brahmin stands on dry ground.'"
세존께서 이렇게 말씀하셨다고.... [나는 들었다].
“비구들이여! 자기 안에서 집착을 버리지 못하고 증오심을 버리지
못하였으며 미망을 버리지 못한 어떤 비구나 비구니든지, 파도․쇄파․
소용돌이 그리고 상어와 귀신이 있는 대양을 건너오지 못한 사람
이라고 하지요. 그렇지만 자기 안에서 집
착을 버리고 증오심을 버렸으며 미망을 버린 어떤 비구나 비구니든지
파도․쇄파․소용돌이 그리고 상어와 귀신이 있는 대양을 건너온 사람
이라고 하고, 그들 중 하나를 ‘건너온 사람, 뛰어넘어 간 사람, 마른땅
[깨달음의 땅]에 우뚝 선 바라문’이라고 부르지요.”
One who has destroyed attachment
Along with hate and ignorance
Has crossed this ocean
With its sharks and demons,
Its fearful waves so hard to cross.
He has surmounted every tie,
Left Death behind,
Become free from clinging,
Forsaken suffering and renewal of being.
Vanished, he cannot be defined, I say -
He has bewildered the King of Death.
집착, 증오심과 어리석음을
소멸시켜 온 사람은
상어와 귀신,
공포의 파도가 있어 건너기 힘든
이 대양을 건너왔네.
그는 온갖 속박을 이겨내고
죽음을 [이겨내] 버려 두고
집착에서 벗어나 자유로워지고
괴로움과 존재의 되풀이[輪廻]를 그만두었네.
그는 죽어서도 [자취를 남기지 않아] 윤곽을 잡아낼 수 없어
죽음의 왕을 당황하게 해왔다고 나는 말하네.
착을 버리고 증오심을 버렸으며 미망을 버린 어떤 비구나 비구니든지
파도․쇄파․소용돌이 그리고 상어와 귀신이 있는 대양을 건너온 사람
이라고 하고, 그들 중 하나를 ‘건너온 사람, 뛰어넘어 간 사람, 마른땅
[깨달음의 땅]에 우뚝 선 바라문’이라고 부르지요.”
