61. Eyes
눈
This was said by the Lord....
"Bhikkhus, there are these three eyes. What three?
The fleshly eye, the divine eye, and the wisdom eye.
These, bhikkhus, are the three eyes."
세존께서 이렇게 말씀하셨다고.... [나는 들었다].
“비구들이여! 이들 세 가지 눈[眼]이 있소. 세속적인 육체의 눈[肉眼],
신통력이 있는 눈[天眼] 그리고 지혜의 눈[慧眼]이오.
비구들이여! 이것들이 세 가지 눈이지요.”
The fleshly eye, the divine eye,
And the unsurpassed wisdom eye -
These three eyes were described
By the Buddha, supreme among men.
The arising of the fleshly eye
Is the path to the divine eye,
But the unsurpassed wisdom eye
Is that from which knowledge arises.
By obtaining such an eye
One is released from all suffering.
세속적인 육체의 눈, 신통력이 있는 눈
그리고 비할 데 없이 뛰어난 지혜의 눈 -
부처님께서는 사람들 사이에서
이들 세 가지 눈이 가장 으뜸 간다고 묘사하셨네.
세속적인 육체의 눈이 생겨나는 것은
신통력이 있는 눈으로 가는 길이지만,
비할 데 없이 뛰어난 지혜의 눈은
거기에서 지혜가 생겨나는 눈이네.
그와 같은 눈[慧眼]을 얻음으로 해서
온갖 괴로움에서 벗어나네.
