82. Joyous Utterances
기쁨에 찬 말
This was said by the Lord....
“Bhikkhus, among the devas these three joyous utterances
are proclaimed from time to time upon certain occasions.
What three? At the time when a noble disciple, having had his
hair and beard shaved off and having clothed himself in the
yellow robe, intends going from home into homelessness,
at that time among the devas the joyous utterances is
proclaimed: ‘A noble disciple intends to do battle with Mara.
' This is the first joyous utterance proclaimed among the
devas from time to time upon a certain occasion.
Again, bhikkhus, at the time when a noble disciple lives engaged
in cultivating the seven groups of the requisites of enlightenment,
at that time among the devas the joyous utterance is proclaimed:
‘A noble disciple is doing battle with Mara.' This is the second
joyous utterance proclaimed among the devas from time to time
upon a certain occasion.
And again, bhikkhus, at the time when a noble disciple, through realization by his own direct knowledge, here and now enters
and abides in the mind-release and wisdom-release that is
taintless by the destruction of the taints, at that time among
the devas the joyous utterance is proclaimed: ‘A noble disciple
has won the battle. He was in the forefront of the fight and
he now dwells victorious.' This, bhikkhus, is the third joyous
utterance proclaimed among the devas from time to time upon
a certain occasion.
These, bhikkhus, are the three joyous utterances...."
세존께서 이렇게 말씀하셨다고.... [나는 들었다].
“비구들이여! 신들 사이에서는 때때로 특정한 경우에 이들 세 가지 기쁨에 찬 소리가 크게 나지요. 셋이 무엇일까요?
고귀한 제자[佛弟子]가 머리카락과 수염을 밀어버리고 누런 옷을 입고서 집에서 [나와] 집없는 경지로 출가하려고 할 때, [바로] 그 때에 신들 사이에서 ‘고귀한 제자가 마라[惡魔]와 싸우려고 한다’는 기쁨에 찬 소리가 크게 나지요. 이것이 특정한 경우에 때때로 신들 사이에서 크게 나오는 첫 번째 기쁨에 찬 소리이지요.
비구들이여! 다시 고귀한 제자[佛弟子]가 깨달음의 필수조건 일곱 그룹을 갈고 닦는 데에 전념하며 살아갈 때, [바로] 그 때에 신들 사이에서 ‘고귀한 제자가 마라[惡魔]와 싸우고 있다’는 기쁨에 찬 소리가 크게 나지요. 이것이 특정한 경우에 때때로 신들 사이에서 크게 나오는 두 번째 기쁨에 찬 소리이지요.
비구들이여! 그리고 다시 고귀한 제자가 [남에 의존하지 않고] 자신의 직접적인 지혜로 체득하여 지금 여기에서, 때를 소멸[煩惱]해서 때[煩惱]가 하나도 없는 마음의 해탈[心解脫]과 지혜의 해탈[慧解脫]에 들어가 머물 때, [바로] 그 때에 신들 사이에서 ‘고귀한 제자가 싸움에서 이겼다. 그가 싸움의 최전선에 있었다가 이제는 승리하였다’는 기쁨에 찬 소리가 크게 나지요. 이것이 특정한 경우에 때때로 신들 사이에서 크게 나오는 세 번째 기쁨에 찬 소리이지요.
비구들이여! 이것들이 세 가지 기쁨에 찬 소리이지요....”
On seeing that he has won the battle,
Even the devas honour him,
The Fully Enlightened One's disciple,
A great one free from diffidence:
"We salute you, O thoroughbred man,
You who have won a difficult conquest.
Having routed the army of Death,
You are unhindered in liberation."
Thus do the devas extol him,
The one who has attained the goal,
For they do not perceive in him
Ground for subjection to Death's control.
원만하게 깨달으신 분의 제자,
두려움 없는 위대한 이가
싸움에서 이겨낸 것을 보자
심지어 신들도 그에게 경의를 표하네.
“오 고귀한 분이시여!
그대는 어려운 싸움을 이겨내셨네.
죽음의 군대를 보내 버리고
해탈하여 [어디에도] 걸림이 없네.
목표를 성취해온 사람
신들이 그를 칭송하니,
그에게서는 죽음의 통제에 굴복할
바탕을 그들이 느끼지 못하기 때문이네.”
