106 With Brahma
브라흐마[梵天]와 함께
This was said by the Lord·.
“Living with Brahma are those families where, within
the home, mother and father are respected by their children.
Living with the early devas are those families where, within
the home, mother and father are respected by their children.
Living with the early teachers are those families where, within
the home, mother and father are respected by their children.
Living with those worthy of adoration are those families where,
within the home, mother and father are respected by their
children. Brahma, bhikkhus, is a term for mother and father.
Early devas and early teachers and those worthy of veneration
are terms for mother and father. For what reason? Because
mother and father are very helpful to their children, they take
care of them and bring them up and teach them about the world."
세존께서 이렇게 말씀하셨다고.... [나는 들었다].
“가정에서 어머니와 아버지가 자기 자식들에게 존경을 받는 가족
들은 브라흐마[梵天]와 함께 살아가고 있는 것이오. 가정에서
어머니와 아버지가 자기 자식들에게 존경을 받는 가족들은 초기의
신들과 함께 살아가고 있는 것이오. 가정에서 어머니와 아버지가
자기 자식들에게 존경을 받는 가족들은 초기의 스승들과 함께 살
아가고 있는 것이오. 가정에서 어머니와 아버지가 자기 자식들에게
존경을 받는 가족들은 존경을 받을만한 자격이 있는 사람들과 함께
살아가고 있는 것이오. 비구들이여! 브라흐마는 어머니와 아버지를
가리키는 말이오. 초기의 신들과 초기의 스승들 그리고 존경을 받을
만한 자격이 있는 사람들은 어머니와 아버지를 가리키는 말이오.
무슨 이유 때문일까요? 어머니와 아버지는 자기 자식들에게 크게
도움이 되고, 그들을 돌보며 양육하고, 그들에게 세상에 대해서 가르쳐
주기 때문이오.”
Mother and father are called
Brahma, early teachers
And worthy of veneration,
Being compassionate towards
Their family of children.
Thus the wise should venerate them,
Pay them due honour,
Provide them with food and drink,
Give them clothing and a bed,
Anoint and bathe them
And also wash their feet.
When he performs such service
For his mother and his father,
They praise that wise person even here
And hereafter he rejoices in heaven.
어머니와 아버지는
자기 자식들에 대한
[한없는] 자애로움으로 해서,
“브라흐마[梵天]”, “초기의 스승님들” 그리고
“존경받을 자격이 있는 사람들”이라 불리네.
그러므로 현명한 사람이라면 그분들을 존경하고
적절한 공경을 올리며
잡수실 것과 마실 것을 제공해 드리고
옷과 침상을 드리며
약을 발라 드리고 목욕을 시켜 드리며
발도 씻겨 드려야 하리.
자기 어머니와 아버지를 위해
그와 같은 서비스를 해드릴 때
심지어 이곳[現世]에서도 그분들이 그 현명한 사람을 칭찬하고
내세에는 천상에서 즐거움을 누리네.
