98. Giving
보시
This was said by the Lord....
“Bhikkhus, there are these two kinds of giving: the giving
of material things and the giving of the Dhamma. Of these
two kinds of giving, this is the foremost, namely, the
giving of the Dhamma. There are these two kinds of
sharing: the sharing of material things and the sharing
of the Dhamma. Of these two kinds of sharing, this is the foremost, namely, the sharing of the Dhamma. There are
these two kinds of help: help with material things and
help with the Dhamma. Of these two kinds of help, this
is the foremost, namely, help with the Dhamma."
세존께서 이렇게 말씀하셨다고.... [나는 들었다].
“비구들이여! 이들 두 종류의 보시, 즉 물질적인 것의 보시[財布施]와
진리 법의 보시[法布施]가 있소. 이 두 종류의 보시 중에서 이것
즉, 진리 법의 보시가 으뜸이 되는 것이오. 이들 두 종류의 분배,
즉 물질적이 것의 분배와 진리 법의 분배가 있소. 이 두 종류의 분배
중에서 이것 즉 진리 법의 분배가 으뜸이 되는 것이오. 이들 두
종류의 도움, 즉 물질적인 것으로 [주는] 도움과 진리 법으로
[주는] 도움이 있소. 이들 두 종류의 도움 중에서 이것 즉
진리 법으로 [주는] 도움이 으뜸이 되는 것이오.”
When they say that giving
Is supreme and unsurpassed,
And the Lord himself has extolled sharing,
Who, wise and knowing,
Confident in that foremost field of merit,
Would not give at the appropriate time?
Both for those who proclaim it
And for those who listen to it,
Confident in the Sublime Ones' teaching,
The supreme good is fully purified
As they live diligently in the teaching.
그 보시가 으뜸가는 것이고 비할 데 없으며
세존께서 직접 분배를 칭송하셨다고
그들이 말한다면,
현명하고 지혜 있으며
그 으뜸가는 공덕의 밭을 확신하고 있는 사람이라면
그 누가 때맞추어 보시를 하지 않으리?
지존(至尊)의 가르침을 확신하고 있는,
그것을 나타낸 사람 그리고
그것을 귀기울여 듣는 사람들 양쪽 모두에게는,
그들이 가르침을 부지런히 수행하며 살아가므로,
가장 으뜸가는 선․덕(善․德)이 원만 청정해지네.
